A horrific crime has sent shockwaves across the world as a 31-year-old trainee doctor, Moumita Debnath, was found brutally murdered and sexually assaulted in a seminar room at R.G. Kar Medical College in North Kolkata, India.
According to reports, Dr. Debnath’s body was discovered on August 9, 2024, with multiple injuries, including severe bruises, cuts, and bleeding from her eyes, mouth, and genitals. The autopsy report revealed that she was strangled, her thyroid cartilage was shattered, and her body bore multiple injuries.
The police initially suggested that Dr. Debnath had died by suicide, but the autopsy report confirmed that she was raped and sexually assaulted before being killed via strangulation. The report also indicated that multiple perpetrators were involved in the attack.
The victim’s parents believe that multiple people were involved in the crime, and the police have arrested one suspect, Sanjay Roy, whose bluetooth headset was found near the victim’s body. However, more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
This heinous crime has sparked outrage and protests across India, with junior doctors and interns demanding justice for Dr. Debnath. Students of Islamic University also carried out a demonstration to demand justice for her.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of women in India and the need for stricter laws to prevent such brutal crimes.
