Enugu, Nigeria – The Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Enugu State, Dr. Ude, played host to the chairman of the Enugu Bar Association (EnBar), Barr. V.C. Odo and his executive team, during a courtesy visit to his office.
The visit, which took place on 16/10/2024, aimed to introduce the new EnBar executives, commend the Attorney General’s administration, and discuss pressing matters affecting the bar and the judiciary.
Addressing the Attorney General, V.C. Odo expressed concern over the empty treasury of EnBar, which has hindered the completion of the NBA Enugu Branch bar centre, a critical project for their meetings. He appealed for state government assistance to complete and furnish the building, ensuring its profitable use.
Odo also requested the provision of seats at the bar centre for members’ comfort and sought the normalization of fiat policy in the state judiciary. which the Attorney General, Dr. Udeh, assured, has already been done, especially regarding malicious damage to property. He also revealed that longhand stenographers in the State judiciary are undergoing training, and their impact will be felt in the Enugu judiciary from next year.
Furthermore, Odo announced that the next NEC meeting of the NBA would take place in Enugu next month, November 5th to 8th, 2024, serving as a test run for the 2026 AGC hosting in the state.
In addition, V.C. Odo solicited the establishment of a bank in the Enugu High Court premises to alleviate lawyers’ stress during filing processes. He also requested the Attorney General’s assistance in facilitating a meeting with the governor of the State, His Excellency; Dr. Peter Mbah to address pressing judiciary advocacy issues.
The Attorney General, Dr. Udeh, expressed his support for EnBar’s initiatives and promised to collaborate with the association to address the challenges facing the judiciary.
The courtesy visit showcased EnBar’s commitment to collaboration and open communication with the Attorney General’s office, ensuring a productive and supportive relationship.
