ENUGU STATE GOVERNOR, PETER MBAH, SIGNS LANDMARK LAND USE REGULATION AND EXECUTIVE ORDER

In a move aimed at boosting transparency and efficiency in land transactions, Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has signed the Land Use Regulation 2025 and Executive Order No. 1, 2025. This landmark legislation designates new urban areas in the state, streamlining land management and eliminating hidden charges and confusion.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Government House in Enugu, marked a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to reform its land management system. Governor Mbah, who spoke at the event, emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in land transactions.

“With the signing of this regulation, we are putting an end to the era of double allocations, land grabbing, and confusion in our land management system,” Governor Mbah declared. “This is a major milestone towards our drive to enhance revenue generation, ease of doing business, and transparency in land transactions.”

The Executive Order designates entire local government areas, including Enugu East, Enugu North, and Enugu South, as urban areas. Other areas, such as Udi, Nkanu West, Nkanu East, and Nsukka, have also been designated as urban areas.

Specific areas designated as urban areas include:

– Ndeabor Urban Area, measuring 10km radius in Aninri LGA
– Oduma Urban Area, measuring 20km radius in Aninri LGA
– Awgu Town, measuring 25km radius
– Oji-River, Ugwuoba, and Inyi in Oji-River LGA

Additionally, parts of some LGAs have been designated as urban areas, including Aguobuowa and Oghe in Ezeagu LGA, Ogbede, Ukehe, and Aku in Igbo-Etiti, Enugu Ezike in Igbo Eze North LGA, Ibagwa Aka in Igbo Eze South LGA, and Ikem and Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.

Governor Mbah assured that the new regulation will provide clarity and transparency in land transactions, eliminating hidden charges and confusion. He also promised adequate public enlightenment on the new processes, ensuring that citizens are informed and empowered to navigate the reformed land management system.

The Land Use Regulation 2025 and Executive Order No. 1, 2025, are expected to have far-reaching impacts on the state’s economy, promoting ease of doing business and enhancing revenue generation. The legislation is also seen as a significant step towards modernizing Enugu State’s land management system, bringing it in line with international best practices.
